in our opinion &#8211; hardly plausible, we need facts, data, and evidence to make the statement credible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simple, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In theory, we are logical machines weighing millimeters and knots of speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/italia-assente-ingiustificato\/#:~:text=Perch%C3%A9%20per%20quanto%20ci%20riteniamo%20asettici%2C%20razionali%20e%20imperturbabili\">In practice, we are much more like worshippers<\/a> looking for a parish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The dogma of likability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s set aside for a moment the more cynical aspects of our brain, those we usually don&#8217;t even admit to ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a source &#8220;dislikes&#8221; us or, more simply, doesn&#8217;t share our general vision of the world, we tend to undervalue it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a shipyard we don&#8217;t like publishes amazing data, our first thought isn&#8217;t &#8220;what engineering!&#8221;, but &#8220;I wonder how they manipulated the tests.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To paraphrase Jessica Rabbit: we&#8217;re not bad, we&#8217;re just wired that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edelman.com\/it\/it\/trust\/2026\/trust-barometer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2026 Edelman Trust Barometer<\/a> study confirms this with surgical ruthlessness: 79% of people today are unable to trust information coming from sources outside their own &#8220;bubble&#8221; of values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If I don&#8217;t feel you are like me, your data is just noise to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or worse, lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that is exactly why two identical boats, told by two different shipyards, are not perceived in the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understanding is believing (for a moment)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The truth is that reading is an exercise in surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Spinoza reflex (studied by Daniel Gilbert in his experiment <a href=\"https:\/\/explorable.com\/understanding-and-belief\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Understanding and Belief<\/a>), our brain is not a notary checking documents before signing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the contrary: to understand a sentence, we must first accept it as true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something we are generally inclined to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rejecting an idea requires a secondary, conscious mental process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results suggest that humans naturally tend toward credulity, especially when they lack the time or cognitive resources to critically analyze the data received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, doubt is a cognitive luxury that comes later, if we still have the energy left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, a 2018 Rand Corporation report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rand.org\/pubs\/research_reports\/RR2314.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Truth Decay<\/a>) affirms what is already stated by the phrase (never actually said by Goebbels): repeat a lie a hundred, a thousand times and it will become a truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meaning that today, much more than in the past, we tend to confuse opinions with facts and give more and more value to the former over the latter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These conclusions help explain various cognitive biases, such as the tendency to believe insinuations or the difficulty in correcting deep-seated prejudices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And often also the proliferation and endurance, especially in our nautical world, of &#8220;pirate&#8221; shipyards that manage to sell unthinkable boats..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this sense, every blog post, every brochure, every technical sheet is a roll of the dice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The writer throws a line; the reader decides whether to catch it and tie it to their cleat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is no coincidence that &#8220;faith&#8221; and &#8220;trust&#8221; share the same Indo-European etymological root: *bheidh-, which means precisely &#8220;to bind.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you read what I write, we are trying to tie a knot together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The role of data: they are anchors, not compasses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If reading is an act of faith, what is data for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They don&#8217;t serve to create faith from nothing &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/senza-numeri-sei-solo-un-altra-persona-con-un-opinione\/\">that is born from reputation and esteem<\/a> &#8211; but they serve to sustain it when the sea gets rough and doubt begins to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/en\/nautical-b2b-marketing-technical-products\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/en\/nautical-b2b-marketing-technical-products\/\">Data is the evidence our rational side needs to not feel stupid<\/a> for having given credit to an emotional promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data does not support faith; faith does not need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Data <a href=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/en\/b2b-emotional-marketing-nautical\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/lliquida.com\/en\/b2b-emotional-marketing-nautical\/\">justifies a choice already made<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In nautical marketing, seasoned pragmatism is not the opposite of faith: it is its life support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because solid competence is indeed born from problem-solving, but it only flourishes when there is someone willing to believe that you actually solved that problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tell the truth, before checking the technical sheet, did you check if you liked the person who signed it (or if you deem them competent)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we believe in something?
